Post-consumer pollution is poisoning our land, our oceans and our food supply

Recycling is fundamental to a clean, healthy society, but it needs a coordinated effort by all of us - individuals and industry - with the full support of government, to make it work effectively. So much is wasted through the impacts of resource extraction, excessive consumption of water and energy in production, and post consumer pollution, which is steadily poisoning our land and oceans. It doesn't have to be this way. A sustainable society knows how to eliminate waste and maximise resource efficiency.  TEC has created successful campaigns to instigate new recycling business models. We have forced industry to take responsibility for product stewardship. And we have worked hard to minimise waste to landfill.

Change is happening:

The End of Plastic Pollution - trillions of pieces of plastic are moving through the planet's critical aquatic ecosystems. In Australia alone, an estimated 600 billion pieces of plastic currently infest our waters, and kill marine life. As micro-plastics move up the food chain, and onto our dinner plates, a ‘major health crisis’ is unfolding. Our solutions are based on getting that plastic out of the loop including by introducing national refund schemes for drink bottles and cans (CDS), and insisting on a ban on single -use plastic bags (endorsed by the bipartisan 2016 Senate Inquiry). We also host and manage the hugely popular work of Australia's peak zero waste NGO, the Boomerang Alliance of 47 groups.

Our world first Beyond Plastic Pollution conference was a huge success - and we are already planning for Beyond Plastic 2018: a massive synergistic networking opportunity for everyone who wants to end plastic pollution and create a thriving pollution-free economy. Stay in touch through the conference website, which has been loaded with all the presentations from this year's panels and speakers.Untitled_design_(10).pngFood waste - enormous amounts are dumped which can still be consumed or made into compost or green energy. We initiated Food Stall Savers to help events and markets become truly waste wise.

Awareness - TEC's travelling Ocean Action Pod is an interactive resource which delivers critical information about plastic pollution of the oceans in an accessible, innovative and lively way.  It's been a big hit with schools and coastal communities - your school or council can book it too. pod_people_big.png

Waste Not, TEC's Award Winning film is about the beauty of recycling and the future of our planet. It has been translated into 4 languages and screened in over 30 countries. The film and curriculum matched study resources have been used all over Australia by corporations, schools, universities and TAFE's. Watch the Waste Not Trailer

The sequel to Waste Not - Mash It Up! will be launched with an innovative, experiential schools' project in 2018. Stay tuned!
