Total Environment Centre (TEC) and the National Toxics Network (NTN) today called on the NSW government to accept resident demands for an independent investigation of the hazards associated with the release of the carcinogen Ethylene Oxide, which was found to be emitted at levels up to 100 times over the safe limit from the sterilising facility of Unomedical’s Mona Vale factory.

The NSW government's recent announcement banning all commercial fishing operations in the Sydney Harbour, due to dioxin contamination, is the result of a legacy of past pollution and present inaction.

TEC has been working with government and other stakeholders to develop notification regulations to help people avoid contamination. Leading US environmental and health groups have released reports that have shown human bodies are contaminated with a wide range of dangerous chemicals including pesticides, industrial chemicals and dioxins. Similar levels would be expected in Australians.
The first regulation enacted has been in New South Wales and applies to public places; sensitive sites adjacent to public spaces and common areas shared by residents.
