POSITION VACANT – WASTE CAMPAIGNER
Total Environment Centre (www.tec.org.au) is seeking a person who wants to make a difference in a job providing great satisfaction and potential for achievement in environmental sustainability. The focus for this position is waste and recycling, in particular container deposits and organics.
We have been involved in advancing recycling and sustainable consumption for several decades and our most recent successful campaign has been the decision by Australia’s environment ministers to introduce an e-waste recycling scheme. We are now working on beverage container deposits and uplifting the recycling of organics from the commercial and domestic sectors.
The next year will be crucial and we are seeking a knowledgeable and enthusiastic campaigner to join our team. The position is initially for nine months with the prospect of extension.
TEC was established in 1972 as an action and information centre and we produce policy, undertake research, plan and implement campaigns, advise government and the community. We also engage with business through our Green Capital program (www.greencapital.org.au) to reduce the environmental footprint of the economy.
Duties:
• Implement the campaign plans for container deposits and organics;
• Research emerging issues and monitor media coverage;
• Draft media releases and briefing notes;
• Maintain contact with supportive NGOs and businesses;
• Respond to enquiries from the public;
• Prepare submissions to government inquiries
Qualifications:
• Proven knowledge of packaging, beverage container and organic waste streams;
• Experience in campaigning and strategy development;
• An understanding of and experience in working for environment goals with NGOs and business;
• Experience with the mass and electronic media;
• Ability to work within a team;
• Excellent written, speaking and meeting skills;
• Proficient in MS Office.
Hours and Remuneration:
• 38 hour week.
• $50,300 per annum, plus superannuation and leave loading
