At sunset on Thursday 22 November 2012, Total Environment Centre celebrated 40 years and 120 eco-victories at the Lion Gates Lodge, Royal Botanic Gardens, Sydney. Delicious wine, food, music, entertained over 200 supporters who milled amongst the spring blossoms. ABC radio's wittiest commentator James Valentine hosted the evening, and the James Valentine Quartet serenaded the assembled. Intrepid Travel generously donated an Australian Adventure package as a prize, and we auctioned a selection of signed original environment themed cartoons donated by some of Australia's cleverest satirists - Ron Tandberg, Cathy Wilcox, Alan Moir, Simon Letch, John Shakespeare and Matt Golding. Also auctioned were two beautiful original illustrations dobnated by Shaun Tan, and a print from photo-media artist Anne Zahalka. An interactive pop-up garbage bin from Professor Bert Bongers and the UTS DLab vied with veteran beekeeper Rod Yates and his popular honeycomb decorated honey tasting table. Set design for our event was generously supplied by the wonderful team at Reverse Garbage. Our litter-free soft drinks come courtesy SodaStream, using a delicious homemade soft drink recipe from the generous chefs at Fleetwood Macchiato in Erskineville, who hand squeezed mandarins, pink grapfruits and lemons for weeks prior to the evnt. Luscious organic wine was lovingly sponsored by Harkham Estate, and the cuddly brewers at Koala Beer provided Burragum Billi Organic Lager and WILDE Gluten Free pale Ale. TEC also launched our Greenprint Vision for Australia's future, our new campaigns, and our new look.
The aim was to thank all our supporters, the veterans and the new chums, and send everyone home with a bright green memory of the Total Environment Centre. A thoroughly grand time was had by all, and the last revellers were still chatting at 10pm.
