TEC applauds the Minns’ government affirming the reunification of Wentworth Park as public green space

Total Environment Centre celebrates the Minns’ government decision to reaffirm Wentworth Park as a key green space for present and future residents. We can now confirm that the site will be retained in public hands, with housing uplift to be achieved around the site.*

Saul Dean, our Urban Campaigner, adds, "I think we dodged a bullet here, it became obvious major property developers were looking at the one billion dollar fish market play book again, to get their hands on more public land or maybe even public waterfront land, so it’s great to see the government stare down those interests.”

We would also like to thank the Glebe Society, Ultimo Village Voice, the Pyrmont Association, and local state representative Kobi Shetty, and Sydney City Council for working against the sell-off option that some in government were entertaining.

This decision also sends a message that the state government is taking seriously the necessity of green spaces to support higher densities. There’s more to do and as development speeds up, the Blue Green grid is a double necessity as it protects our green spaces along our foreshores and riverfronts. These are essential if we are going to cope with a world getting hotter.

These 'greenways' are worth celebrating, including Sydney’s newest GreenWay addition at Johnsons Creek (full link opening 14 Dec 2025) and a continuous 15-kilometre coastal boardwalk from the Blackwattle Bay to Woolloomooloo set to be opened by 2032.
