AUSMAP and ANZ: Four years of Action and Impact

Microplastics are now recognised as a global environmental challenge, found everywhere from the food we eat to the air we breathe. Over the past 4 years, ANZ Australia has been dedicated to empowering staff to live more sustainably by providing education and pathways to take meaningful environmental action.

ANZ has partnered with AUSMAP to deliver more than 40 in-person microplastic sampling events across Australia. These events have not only educated and engaged staff on reducing plastic pollution but have also inspired environmental advocacy, time in nature, and stronger team connections through meaningful, hands-on experiences.

Over four years, more than 1,000 ANZ staff took part in the AUSMAP & ANZ Green Ambassador Program, contributing thousands of volunteer hours to help monitor and reduce plastic pollution across Australia.

4 Years of Impact:

  • 1,000+ ANZ staff engaged
  • 5,571 Volunteer hours
  • 21,384 Microplastics identified
  • 39,309 Litter items removed

“It was an eye-opening day of education and action, highlighting the severe impact microplastics have on our environment. Every bit of effort counts in preserving our precious beaches and oceans.” - ANZ Staff Member

The AUSMAP & ANZ Green Ambassador Program has had a lasting impact beyond the staff who attended the events. It has also helped support AUSMAP's education and citizen science programs for communities and schools across Australia. Data collected from more than 40 sampling sites has contributed to the AUSMAP Hotspot Map and reporting to councils and government, helping build a better understanding of environmental microplastic levels and how they change over time.
