Fighting for a Green Future: An Evening of Hope, Reflection and Action

A night of film, conversation and inspiration with Tim Flannery, Laura Wells and Jeff Angel.

Tim Flannery, Laura Wells and Jeff Angel panel discussion at TEC event

Earlier this month, we hosted an exclusive screening of Fighting for a Green Future at Canva Space in Surry Hills, with a panel discussion hosted by Jeff Angel with guests Tim Flannery and Laura Wells. It was a relaxed and inspiring evening with great conversation.

We'd like to thank Canva Space for making their Surry Hills space available to us for the evening.

The film tells the story of 50 years of environmental action in Australia, tracking key campaigns, changing attitudes, laws and politics. After the screening, the panel took the conversation to some genuinely interesting places. Climate, hope, disinformation, eco grief, First Nations perspectives, and what it takes to stay in this work for the long haul.

Tim Flannery reflected on how profoundly our relationship with the natural world has shifted. He recalled a time when dumping waste into a bay was called progress. That paradigm, he said, has been fundamentally challenged. The environmental movement, of which we have been a part for over 54 years, did that.

Laura Wells reminded the room that staying hopeful isn't naive. It's actually how we change hearts and minds.

And Jeff left us with the reminder that drives everything TEC does: big changes happen. History is proof.

Environmental changes take decades. Sometimes it's hard to see the progress when you're in the middle of it. But as the panel reminded us, those small steps are always moving us forward. We may never return to what was, but we can protect what we have, restore what we've lost, and pass it on to our kids and the generations to come. That feels worth fighting for.
